He affirmed that Viet Nam always attaches importance to cooperative relations with Australia, praising sound developments of the bilateral comprehensive partnership in all fields.
After hearing the Vietnamese official’s briefing about the VFF’s activities, Ambassador Borrowman and VFF President Nhan discussed several matters of mutual concern.
Regarding recent tensions in the East Sea, the ambassador said that 60 percent of cargo to and from Australia is shipped through the East Sea, so tensions in the region affect directly Australia’s interests.
Australia called on all sides concerned to practise restraint, undertake no aggressive act, conform with international law and make sovereignty declaration in accordance with the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
Trade and investment cooperation between Viet Nam and Australia has seen positive developments.
Viet Nam is the 15th largest commercial partner of Australia while the oceanic country is the eighth of Viet Nam. The trade turnover rose from US$32.3 million in 1990 to US$5.1 billion in 2013.
