Uzbekistan’s honorary consul office debuts in VN

VGP – The Honorary Consul’s Office of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Việt Nam today was opened in Hà Nội.

Mr. Lê Văn Nghĩa, appointed by the Governments of Việt Nam and Uzbekistan as the "Honorary Consul" of Uzbekistan, said at the ceremony that the debut of the office will open new chances to promote the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

Việt Nam and Uzbekistan established diplomatic ties on January 17, 1992. The two countries have inked many cooperation agreements in such fields as economy, commerce, diplomacy, tax, investment, and tourism.

Uzbekistan has a high demand for Việt Nam’s tropical agro-products, food, handicraft goods, garments, electronic products. It can provide Việt Nam with cotton, metals, fertilizers, and machinery. The two-way trade turnover increased from US $4.8 million in 2006 to US $6.6 million in 2007 and US $8.3 million in 2008.

Mr. Nghĩa revealed that in the time to come the Office will cooperate with Uzbekistan to organize seminars and fairs in Tashkent and send Vietnamese art delegations to Uzbekistan.
