USTDA helps VN edge flood forecast capacity

VGP - The US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) recently pledged to provide Việt Nam with around US $583,000 on assisting the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) in flood forecast and natural disaster control.

The aid is part of a project on strengthen capacity for natural catastrophe prevention which was signed by USTDA and MARD yesterday in Hà Nội.

The project will last for 18 months from November, 2009.

Located in the region which is affected by tropical monsoon climate and heavy storms in the Asia-Pacific Region, Việt Nam is regularly suffering from various types of natural disasters.

Plus, Việt Nam is one of ten countries hardly and constantly hit by natural calamities including storms, floods, landslides and draughts.

Due to natural disasters, each year, around 750 local people are reported died or missing and the property losses accounts about 1.5% of GDP.
