US - VN’s largest aquatic importer

VGP – The US spent US$1.61 billion on Vietnamese aquatic products in the first quarter of 2014.

It becomes the largest importer of the item, accounting for 26.36% of Viet Nam's export over the past three months.

In 2013, the country made an import value of US$1.518 billion, up 27.4%.

Shrimp, tra fish fillets, tuna and crab were main products bought by the US, making up over 95.7% of the total in 2013.

According to the Department of Import-Export Administration, under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, aquatic export to the US has shown positive signs, reflecting in a sharp increase in the turnover of shrimp (up 163%) and tra fish products (up 44.6%).

Exports to the US witnessed the highest growth rate of 27.4% in 2013 and 87.8% in January 2014, among top three importers of Vietnamese aquatic products (the US, the EU and Japan).
