US Counselor Shannon visits VN

(Chinhphu.vn) – US Counselor Thomas A. Shannon visited Viet Nam from October 10-13 following the Secretary Kerry’s December 2013 visit to the Mekong River.

During his stay in Viet Nam, Mr. Shannon paid courtesy call to Secretary of Ha Noi Party Committee Pham Quang Nghi, met with Deputy Foreign Minister Ha Kim Ngoc, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Nguyen Thai Lai and Deputy Head of the CPVCC’s Commission for External Relations Vuong Thua Phong.

Both sides openly discussed bilateral and regional issues at the meetings.

Regarding bilateral aspect, the two sides expressed their pleasure at the encouraging developments in the Viet Nam-US relations over the past time, especially after the two countries set up comprehensive partnership in July 2013.

They also agreed on closer coordination for successful implementation of the joint cooperation programs within the Lower Mekong Inititative (LMI) to contribute to the overall development of the Mekong region in a sustainable manner./.
