US $2.25 million for energy saving projects

VNGOP – Thirty-six billion VND (US $2.25 million) has been earmarked for next year’s National Strategic Program on Energy Saving and Efficient Use, an official from the program told a conference in Hà Nội on October 30.

According to Program Manager Nguyễn Đình Hiệp, the national strategy will set aside VND 14 billion to assist five energy saving projects.

Mr. Hiệp also said the biggest sum of VND 10 billion will be given to the Institute for Energetic and Mining Machines to build a lab that will test the energy efficiency of refrigeration equipment of 40,000 BTU capacity.

The lab will be the first of its kind in Việt Nam.

Other initiatives include energy saving projects by the Rạng Đông Plastic Joint Stock Company and the Phú Yên Brewery Company. Hồ Chí Minh City’s Energy Saving Center will investigate energy saving in public light systems and a project on residential buildings’ power consumption will be conducted by the Housing and Urban Development Corporation.
