The company signed a product-sharing contract (PSC) to this effect with the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) in Hanoi on June 29.

This is the first deal for the exploration and exploitation of energy in the Mekong Delta reached between local and foreign partners.

Founded in early 2005, Salamander Energy is a private exploration and production (E&P) firm that has focused its attention on Southeast Asia. The company has already proved to be successful in Thailand, Indonesia and Laos.

Last week, PetroVietnam also inked a similar contract with PetroVietnam Exploration and Production (PVEP) and Petronas Carigali Overseas Sdn.Bhd – an arm of the Malaysian oil giant Petronas.

The two contractors will spend US$ 57.7 million on exploring oil and gas at Block 103-107 on Vietnam’s northern continental shelf.
