Trust is precious legacy

VGP – Looking back at the history of the Communist Party of Viet Nam, we can see that “trust is the precious legacy and fundamental soft power” of the Party, according to Professor Vu Minh Giang from the National University.

Since coming into existence, the Communist Party of Viet Nam became a spearhead force of the nation and fellowmen who have followed, protected, and helped the Party, Giang told Government Newspaper on the occasion of the 87th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam.

He added it has been the way that trust has been built. If trust is lost, the Party will lose all as no compatriot follows and it has no legitimacy to exist.

Viet Nam won the historic Dien Bien Phu battle against French forces not because of overwhelming number of soldiers and weapons, it was because of the trust of people in the final victory and the talented leadership of President Ho Chi Minh.

“We had good generals and brave soldiers who directly involved in the battle but the regularly decisive factor was millions of people in the rear,” Giang said.

And then, it was still people’s stony trust in the Party, we liberated the South.

However, we had to pay price for subjectivism and voluntarism in 1980s. With the centrally planned economy, our country plunged in serious crisis, especially inflation was skyrocketing.

The reform course over the past three decades has helped restore trust, creating a new lease of life, yet corruption, bribery, authoritarian behavior, and interest groups also emerged, leading to declining trust.

The 4th Plenum of the 12th Communist Party of Viet Nam Central Committee launched a campaign on Party building and rectification as part of the effort to nurture and fortify the political trust among people.

Following the 12th National Party Congress held in early 2016, compatriots are monitoring first steps to address pressing issues. Big corruption cases have been brought to light, regardless of who they were. And for the first time, even sensitive issues like bribery for job, promotion have been unfolded. This demonstrates that Party’s wish to meet aspirations of the people as well as the its own imperative to make the Party clean and healthy.

Giang said national interests must be placed first and this principle was thoroughly grasped during the process of preparing documents for the 12th National Party Congress. The Party must continue to be the vanguard faithfully representing the interests of the whole nation./.
