The scheme targets to develop large-scale tilapia cultivation with diversified and high-value products for both domestic and foreign markets; ensure supply of fries for breeding; control diseases; and raise income for farmers.

By 2020, total tilapia cultivation area would touch 33,000 hectares and 1,500,000 m3 of farming cages on rivers and reservoirs. Tilapia output would reach 300,000 tons, 50-60% of which would be qualified for export. The scheme aims to generate 54,000 jobs.

By 2030, the total cultivation area would increase to 40,000 hectares and 1,800,000m3 of farming cages on rivers and large reservoirs. Tilapia output would be 400,000 tons, 45-50% of which would serve for export. The sector would churn out 67,000 direct jobs and 8,000 indirect ones.

Under the scheme, tilapia cultivation will be developed in seven ecological regions.

Organizations and individuals will get credit loans for tilapia cultivation in accordance with the Government’s Decree 55/2015/ND-CP, dated June 9, 2015 on credit policies for agricultural and rural development./.
