Taiwanese company suspended over untreated waste discharge

VGP – The Hải Dương People’s Committee yesterday decided to temporally suspend Tung Kuang Industrial Joint Stock Company, a Taiwanese-owned company for discharging untreated wastewater into the local river.

The Taiwanese manufacturer of aluminum frames was caught red-handed on April 14 for illegally discharging its wastewater directly into the Ghẽ River of the northern province of Hải Dương even though it has a high-quality wastewater treatment system.    

On April 19, an interdisciplinary task force including members the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the Hải Dương Environment Department had a meeting with representatives of Tung Kuang Company.

The foreign company admitted of its concealment of an underground pipe to release wastewater from its factories to the Ghẽ River since October 2008. 

It was reported that around 3,000 households living along the River have been using the water source for their daily activities for years.

Earlier, the company had been fired for dumping untreated waste to the environment./.
