Taiwan asked to ensure safety for Vietnamese detainees

VGP –The Viet Nam Economic and Cultural Office in Chinese Taipei on December 28 discussed with local authorities, asking the Taiwanese side to ensure safety and personal honor of the detainees in the spirit of humanitarian and in line with the local law during the investigation process.

Functional agencies in Taiwan (China) temporarily detained 17 out of 152 Vietnamese tourists suspected of fleeing in Taiwan for further investigation by December 28, according to the Viet Nam Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei.

The local functional agencies was required to promptly inform the Viet Nam Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei about the situations of the detainees and developments related to the case for joining hand to address the issue as well as facilitate the office to pay consular visits to these detainees.

The Taiwanese side said they will temporarily stop granting online visa for tourist groups under the “Kuan Hung Pilot Project”.

The Taiwanese side will apply measures to closely control delegations of tourists entering Taiwan via local airports if unusual signs are found.

Other agencies under the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Viet Nam Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei will continue close coordination with domestic authorized agencies and the Taiwanese side to address the case.

The “Kuan Hung Pilot Project” is an electronic visa program designed to increase the number of quality tourist groups from the ASEAN member states of Indonesia, Viet Nam, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos and India.
