State President: U.S. – key partner in VN’s diplomatic policies

VGP – Viet Nam attaches importance to the Comprehensive Partnership with the U.S., regarding the U.S. as a key partner in its diplomatic policies.

State President Tran Dai Quang made that statement at his reception for Senator Cory Gardner, Chairman of the U.S. Senate’s Foreign Relations Subcommittee on East Asia, the Pacific, and International Cybersecurity Policy, in Ha Noi on May 28.

At the meeting, the State President expressed his delight at talks and meetings between their high-ranking leaders, specifically pointed to a State visit to Viet Nam by President Donald Trump and an official visit to the U.S. by PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc last year.

The two nations are actively launching reached high-ranking agreements in 2017 and gained achievements in fields of politics-diplomacy, economics-trade, defense-security, he added. 

Hailing positive growth of bilateral parliamentary ties, the State leader stressed that Viet Nam welcomes visits of more U.S. congressmen who seek to explore Viet Nam’s culture, land and people and will serve as a bridge for Viet Nam – U.S. cooperation.

He suggested the U.S. Congress approve to provide budget and soon sign a non-refundable aid for Bien Hoa Airport dioxin remediation project as well as continue promoting landmine clearance, assisting Agent Orange victims and seeking for Vietnamese soldiers missing in war. 

Mr. Quang highly valued the crucial role of the U.S. in maintaining peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region, proposing the two sides strengthen cooperation at regional institutions, focusing on consolidating the central role and solidarity of ASEAN and promoting ASEAN-U.S. Strategic Partnership more effectively. 

For his part, Mr. Cory Gardner informed his guest that during his visit, he planned to have working sessions with Vietnamese agencies to discuss boosters to Viet Nam – U.S. ties.

He said he supports free trade and increasing Viet Nam – U.S. collaboration in mitigating Agent Orange impacts and clearing post-war bombs and mines and climate change adaption.
