During the three day visit, both sides will discuss ways to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries.

This is the first visit of a Vietnamese Head of State to Germany since Germany was reunified in 1990, taking place on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties.

For the past years, Germany is one of Viet Nam’s top partners in Europe. Mutual trust and understanding have been intensified through the exchange of high level delegations and various cooperative mechanisms.

In 2011, PM Nguyen Tan Dung and his German counterpart signed the Declaration to establish the strategic partnership, in which objectives and measures to enhance the bilateral ties were specified.

The two sides have also maintained active cooperation at multilateral and international forums like the United Nations, ASEM, and ASEAN-EU.

The European country is the biggest European trade partner of Viet Nam as the latter’s export value accounts for 19% of the total figure. Germany considers Viet Nam as one of the three potential markets in Asia after China and India.

By the end of September this year, German investors pledged to pour US$1.413 billion in 261 projects, ranking 22nd among countries and territories in Viet Nam./.
