State President telegraphs greetings to World Conference against Atomic and Hydrogen Bombs

VGP – State President Tran Dai Quang on July 31 extended a congratulatory message to the 63rd World Conference against Atomic and Hydrogen Bombs which will be organized in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan from August 2-10, 2018.

The message says:

“Over the past 63 years since the first World Conference against Atomic and Hydrogen Bombs was held in 1955, 10 years after the nuclear attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the peace movement in the world has unceasingly made crucial efforts in struggling against nuclear weapons and weapons of mass destruction.

These efforts have made crucial contribution to the establishment of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) in 1968 and the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons or the Nuclear Weapon Ban Treaty in 2017 as well as the Inter-Korean Summit and the summit between the U.S. and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) opened up positive prospects to address nuclear issues in the Korean peninsula.

As the nation has seriously suffered from the consequences of Agent Orange/dioxin on the human and environment, Vietnamese people understand the dire consequences of weapons of mass destruction.

Viet Nam has always been consistent with its anti-nuclear weapons policy and was one of the first countries to support, sign and ratify the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

We highly expect the strong development of the world peace movements to protest and abolish nuclear weapons and weapons of mass destruction. We hope that this year’s conference creates an opportunity for the world’s peaceful forces and organizations to launch new activities against nuclear weapons and weapons of mass destruction, continuing to affirm solidarity and strong support for victims of atomic weapons, Agent Orange and other war crimes, for a world of peace, security, stability and sustainable development.

I express my deep gratitude for the effective assistance the world peace campaign, Japan and the Japan Council against Atomic and Hydrogen Bombs has provided for Viet Nam during its national liberation, reunification, establishment and development.

I wish the conference would be held successfully!”
