According to J-Power, the plan can make the best use of abundant source of rice husk in the Mekong Delta, estimated at 3.7 million tons a year.
Part of this input material source is discharged into rivers, causing environmental pollution.
The construction of the rice husk-powered plant, expected to locate in Thốt Nốt District, is scheduled to start in late 2010.
It is calculated that the generation of 1 kWh of electricity costs 1.6-2.2 kg of rice husk.
So, by using rice husk as input fuel, the power plant can save 30% of production costs compared to ordinary power generators.
