Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc made the remark at the 10th National Congress of the VRCS for the 2017-2022 term, which officially opened in Ha Noi on August 16 with the participation of 487 delegates representing over eight million Red Cross officials, members, volunteers and youths across the country.

Speaking highly of the significant achievements attained by the VRCS, the Government leader also stated that humanitarian operations and Red Cross organization in some areas still remain limited; there exist shortcomings in management work over humanitarian activities; and the operational content and model of the VRCS have yet to be renovated in some localities.

Viet Nam is still facing numerous difficulties and challenges, with many social issues in need of being addressed, such as the handling of post-war consequences, he said, urging the need to promote the spirit of sharing and solidarity in society as well as improve the quality of the VRCS’s operations in the time ahead.

As reported at the congress, the VRCS has mobilized nearly VND10 trillion (US$440 million) for humanitarian operations. Many outstanding activities were held, including the movement “Tet for poor people and Agent Orange victims”, the campaign “Each organization, individual is attached with one humanitarian address”, and the “Cow Bank” project.
