Projects on irrigation and traffic safety to be equipped by Japan

VNGOVNet – Considering the proposal of the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI), the PM agreed on January 29 with the MPI to represent the Vietnamese Government to request the Japanese Government provide nonrefundable grants of 19 equipment items worth of US$ 225,600 for the Project "Capacity increasing in people-involved irrigation management" and other 27 items (US$ 229,700) for the Project "Developing human resource for traffic safety in Hanoi".

The PM assigned the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Hanoi City People’s Committee to receive and use the equipment in line with the current stipulations.

* Project "Capacity increasing in people-involved irrigation management", having a total investment capital of US$ 5.98 million, is implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in five years. The Project is aimed at raising yield and productivity of Vietnam’s agriculture through improving knowledge of typical farmers and irrigation engineers in pilot zones in Quảng Ninh and Hải Dương Provinces.

* The technical cooperation project "Developing human resource in traffic safety in Hanoi" between the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Hanoi City People’s Committee was started in July 2006 and lasts for three years to taking more measures for traffic safety in Hanoi. The Project focuses on four aspects: Japanese and Vietnamese experts collaborate to analyze traffic conditions in Hanoi and set up solutions of traffic safety; to realize pilot projects on traffic safety; to coach traffic police, inspectors and engineers; and to institutionalize the organization of short-term workshops and the implementation of propagation movements on traffic safety.
