NA Standing Committee discusses deputy election law
 
The 13th National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee commenced its 35th session in Ha Noi on February 25, evaluating a number of laws, including laws on electing deputies to the NA and the People’s Councils.

A national election council should be established once an election date is announced, and automatically disperse after the NA recognises the eligibility of the deputies to ensure the council operates effectively and economically, according to Phung Quoc Hien, Head of the NA Committee for Finance and Budget, and Truong Thi Mai, head of the NA Committee for Social Affairs, and other members of the standing committee.
 
During the session, the NA Standing Committee will also drafted opinions on a number of other laws, including the Law on Maritime-Island Resources and Environment, the revised Law on the State Budget and a draft Referendum Law.
 
Regulations on coast guard ships’ colors updated

The Government has issued a resolution amending and supplementing earlier regulations on colors of Viet Nam’s coast guard ships.

Resolution No.86/2009/ND-CP defines that patrol and environment protection ships are painted blue with command towers in white. The front parts of the ships have two white lines carrying the ships’ numbers and the back parts have two lines with bold capital letters in white:

The newly issued Resolution No.13/2015/ND-CP regulates specifically colors for each type of patrol, environmental protection, logistic ship and patrol canoes.

VN, Malaysia enhance defence partnership

Defence Minister Phung Quang Thanh held a welcome reception for a Malaysian delegation on a two-day working visit led by Defence Minister Dato’ Seri Hishammuddin Tun Husein.

During their talks, the two sides reviewed the outcomes of their defence partnership over the past year buit on the memorandum of understanding on bilateral defence cooperation signed in 2008.

They agreed to continue working together in exchanging visits, search and rescue operation, naval cooperation and personnel training.

Vietnamese workers in Thailand to have full benefits

The Vietnamese Embassy and the Consulate-General in Khon Kaen, Thailand has announced steps for Vietnamese workers in Thailand to register for work permit licences.

Accordingly, Thailand will adopt a policy on labor cooperation with Viet Nam; both countries will discuss the cooperation, including registration and work permit issuance; and Thailand will publish specifically required procedures.

The registration and work permit issuance for Vietnamese workers in Thailand are resulted from the talks between Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and his Thai counterpart Prayut Chan-o-cha held in Ha Noi on November 27-28, 2014.

VN ranks 75th in Global Talent Competitiveness Index

Viet Nam is ranked 75th among 93 countries in the annual Global Talent Competitiveness Index, which measures a nation's competitiveness based on the quality of talent it can produce, attract and retain.

The survey, which aims to provide a practical and strategic tool for governments, businesses and not-for -profit organisations to inform policies in areas such as education, human resources and immigration, found that investment in "employable skills" and vocational education underpins success in developing, attracting and retaining talent.
 

HCM City targets $35 billion for export earnings
 
The southern economic and business hub, Ho Chi Minh City, targets export revenues of $35 billion this year, a year on year rise of 8-10%.
 
In 2014, excluding crude oil, the City’s export revenues reached $27.8 billion, up 12% from 2013.

In the first month of 2015, it raked in over $2 billion from overseas shipments, a 9.1% increase year on year.
