National Assembly Chairwoman begins India visit 

Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen ThiKim Ngan arrived in New Delhi, India, on December 8, beginning the official visit to India at the invitation of Senate President Mohammad Hamid Ansari and Speaker of the Lower House Sumitra Mahajan. 

The visit is expected to deepen the relations between the two countries as well as actualise their comprehensive strategic partnership.

Sympathies to Indonesia on heavy losses in earthquake

President Tran Dai Quang and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on December 8 offered sympathies to Indonesian President Joko Widodoon heavy human and property losses caused by an earthquake in Aceh province.

The same day, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh also extended sympathies to Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi.

VN welcomes all ASEAN and international enterprises: PM

Viet Nam is exerting efforts to improve the business climate and welcomes all ASEAN and international enterprises which have chosen the country as a trusted and attractive investment destination.

PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc made the remarks while addressing the 2016 ASEAN Business Summit in Ha Noi on December 8.

In its third year, the annual conference featured the attendance of ASEAN leaders across the business, and finance sectors and government for the first time.

Government leader hails VN-Spain cooperation

PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc appreciated the results of cooperation between Viet Nam and Spain recently, particularly a trade revenue of US$3 billion last year and US$2 billion in the first half of this year at a meeting with Spain Ambassador to Viet Nam Alfonso Tena Garcia in Ha Noi on December 8.

Ambassador Garcia agreed with PM Phuc’s suggestions, including activities to mark their 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2017. 

He said his nation backs the signing of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EUVFTA) and Spanish businesses want to invest in infrastructure in Vietnam, including the Metro project in Ho Chi Minh City.

Vietnamese Government supports cooperation with Lao institute

The Vietnamese Government is ready to provide the best possible conditions for Laos’s National Economic Research Institute (NERI) to effectively cooperate with its Vietnamese partners, Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue has said.

He made the statement while meeting with NERI Director Bouasone Bouphavanh, who is also former Prime Minister of Laos, in Ha Noi on December 8.

He expressed his delight at the cooperation between NERI and the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS) in researching and consulting their respective Parties and States about economic guidelines and policies.

VN wants more experience in UN peacekeeping from France

Viet Nam wishes to learn more from France’s experience in the United Nations (UN) peacekeeping activities.

Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Viet Nam People’s Army Vo Van Tuan made the statement at a reception for First Counselor of France’s Embassy in Vietnam Remi Lambert, in Ha Noi on December 8.

He highly valued the experience shared by French experts at a recent workshop in Ha Noi on the dispatch of a sapper unit to UN peacekeeping missions.

Ha Noi to host Int’l Conference on Vietnamese Studies

The fifth International Conference on Vietnamese Studies will be held in Ha Noi on December 15-16, announced the Viet Nam National University (VNU) – Ha Noi on December 8.

The conference will be organised by the Viet Nam National University – Ha Noi under the theme “Sustainable Development in the Context of Global Change”.

It aims to establish an international academic forum for experts to discuss and propose solutions to tackling temporary issues that Viet Nam is dealing with in the context of global change.

HCM City association celebrates Japanese Emperor’s birthday

The Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations and the municipal Viet Nam-Japan Friendship Association co-held on December 8 a get-together to celebrate the birthday of Emperor Akihito (December 23).

Japan’s Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Nakajima said the relations between Ho Chi Minh City and Japan have been strengthened in a practical manner through visits by local officials and people-to-people exchange activities.

Nakajima noted that the first visit to Viet Nam by the Emperor and the Empress in the coming time will create a great driving force to intensify the two countries’ strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia.

Ho Chi Minh City to host international culinary festival

An international culinary festival “Taste of the World 2016” is slated for December 15-18 in Ho Chi Minh City, luring the participation of 17 countries and 45 food businesses in the city. 

Themed “Multi-sense cuisine”, this year’s event will bring more interactions to visitors, said Nguyen Thi Anh Hoa, Deputy Head of the municipal Department of Tourism.

The event is expected to help participants gain insights into diverse culinary cultures of countries in the world, she added.
