President Nguyễn Minh Triết warmly welcomed Mr. Clinton as the Head of the William J. Clinton Foundation for his assistance to HIV-infected people in many countries, including Vietnam. The President expressed his wish that the Foundation will help Vietnam not only in HIV/AIDS prevention but also in other fields, such as assisting dioxin victims, and clearing bombs and mines.

Mr. Bill Clinton highly hailed Vietnam for its effective HIV/AIDS prevention and anti-discrimination against HIV-infected people. He pledged to further support the country in preventing and fighting against HIV/AIDS epidemic through providing medicines and testing equipment. He also praised Vietnam’s prestige and the rapid development it has gained since his 2000 visit. He said that American people and himself always support the US Congress to approve the PNTR status for Vietnam.
In the witness of President Nguyễn Minh Triết, Mr. Bill Clinton and Health Minister Trần Thị Trung Chiến signed an agreement on provision of assistance to Vietnam in controlling HIV/AIDS. The CHAI has conducted a project in Vietnam called “Pediatric Initiative” by annually providing 800 doses of ARV for children and 900 doses for pregnant women and training medical staff to take care of women and children under HIV/AIDS treatment.
