President Hồ Chí Minh’s close French friend visits VN

VNGOP – At the invitation of the Vietnamese Government, Mr. Raymond Aubrac, a close French friend of President Hồ Chí Minh, and his daughter Elizabeth, paid a visit to Việt Nam from August 27 to September 04, 2007.

On September 04, Mr. Raymond Aubrac and his daughter paid a courtersy visit to State President Nguyễn Minh Triết. The President expressed his gratitude to the guest and his family’s sentiments and great contributions to Uncle Hồ and to Vietnamese people during the wartime as well as in the peaceful time.

During their stay in Việt Nam, Mr. R. Aubrac and his daughter had meetings with General Võ Nguyên Giáp and former Vice President Nguyễn Thị Bình. They also visited Hồ Chí Minh City and Lâm Đồng Province.

On the occasion, Mr. Aubrac was awarded with the Medal for Peace and Friendship Among Different Nations by the Việt Nam Union for Friendship Associations and the Hồ Chí Minh City Badge for Honorable Citizen by the City People’s Committee Chairman.

In 1946, it was Mr. Aubrac who invited President Hồ Chí Minh to stay in his home during the President’s official visit to France as the first head of State of the newly-established Democratic Republic of Việt Nam. Later, he took part in the Geneve Conference in 1954 and the Paris Talks in 1972. He also made direct contributions to Việt Nam’s post-war reconstruction.
