PM receives U.S. Trade Representative

VGP – PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc asserted that Viet Nam advocates free trade based on equality and mutual benefits, expressing his hope to continue strengthening economic and trade relations with the U.S. at his reception for U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer on May 20 in Ha Noi.

Welcoming Mr. Robert Lighthizer’s visit to Viet Nam, the PM said that at his meeting with the U.S.-ASEAN Business Council, a number of the U.S. businesses tend to pour investment and launch operation in Viet Nam, reasoning the Vietnamese Government’s  facilitation of foreign investors.  

The two nations’ functional agencies are discussing and completing commercial cooperative mechanisms in a more effective and favorable way for mutual benefits, he added.

The U.S. plays a crucial role in the Asia-Pacific economic cooperative region and ASEAN,he said, expressing his hope that the U.S. will continue  cooperative activities, especially in economy and trade, contributing to the prosperity in the region and the world.

For his part, Mr. Robert Lighthizer said that Viet Nam is the first destination of his diplomatic mission as the U.S. Trade Representative, affirming that the U.S. attaches importance to developing the cooperation, economics and trade with Viet Nam.  

He expected that the future official visit of PM Nguyen XuanPhuc to the U.S. will help upgrade the two nations’ Comprehensive Partnership relations.

He hailed the role of Viet Nam in hosting meetings within the APEC, confirming that the U.S. will continue assisting Viet Nam to successfully organize APEC Viet Nam 2017.

He asserted to do his utmost to cooperate with functional agencies of the Vietnamese Government to promote more programs and projects to make contribution to the bilateral cooperation.
