PM: Police force has to maintain national security, ensure social safety in all situations

VGP – The police force must maintain the national security and ensure social safety and order in all situations as well as absolutely protect security and safety of the party congresses at all levels towards the 13th National Party Congress, the ASEAN Summit and other political, cultural and diplomatic events.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc made that statement at the 75th meeting of the public security force on December 24. 

Speaking at the meeting, Phuc stressed the crucial role of the police force in the country’s socio-economic performance, particularly in 2019, the second successive year that the country reached and even exceeded the set socio-economic development tasks.  

The PM asked for enhancing inspection and supervision works in sectors and working positions prone to negative behaviors and corruption and promptly detecting and strictly handling collectives and individuals who violate laws. 

The police force has to strengthen the effectiveness of the State management on security and order, contributing to establishing the State of law, of the people, by the people and for the people and uphold the huge potentials of the political system and people at all the levels in security and order protection. 

According to the report delivered by Deputy Minister of Public Security Bui Van Nam, in 2019, social security and public order crimes went down by 7.39% compared to last year. 

The force launched a number of crackdowns on crimes, investigated and dealt with over 40,700 criminal violation cases, and busted more than 2,200 gangs this year.

He added that the police handled over 14,300 economic management violation cases, 298 corruption cases and over 1,700 smuggling cases, arresting more than 35,100 drug traffickers, and confiscating nearly 1,500kg of heroin, over 5,500kg of meth and nearly 1 million pills.

The meeting will last till December 26.
