PM Phuc holds talks with Singaporean counterpart

VGP – PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc and PM Lee Hsien Loong agreed Viet Nam and Singapore will maintain political trust through regular exchange of delegations at all levels during their talks on April 25.

The two PMs underlined the necessity to further boost defense and security cooperation and to coordinate in addressing common challenges such as piracy, terrorism, cyber security and high-tech crime among others.

PM Lee pledged Singapore will step up investments in Viet Nam in high valued added and environmentally friendly fields.

Singapore is ready to support and share experience in seaport and logistics development with Viet Nam, said Mr. Lee.

PM Lee also committed to facilitating import of Vietnamese goods, especially farm produce while increasing scholarships for Vietnamese students.

Both sides acknowledged new progresses in financial, scientific and technological cooperation and vowed to further accelerate cooperation in the domains.

The two sides shared their views and committed to enhancing coordination at international forums, especially ASEAN, APEC and the United Nations.

Viet Nam stands ready to work with Singapore –ASEAN Chair 2018 –  to strengthen solidarity and central role of the block toward a resilient and innovative ASEAN, PM Phuc affirmed.

The two PMs affirmed the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the region as well as freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea.

They called for avoiding threat or use of force, fully respecting diplomatic and legal processes, settling disputes peacefully on the basis of international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.

They reaffirmed their support for full and effective implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and for early conclusion of an effective and legally-binding Code of Conduct in the East Sea.

On the occasion, the two PMs witnessed the signing ceremony of documents on environment, finance, inspection, renewal energy, standardization cooperation between the two countries.

The same day, PM Phuc met with Singaporean President Halimah Yacob./.
