PM holds phone talks with US Congressmen

VGP – PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc on Thursday had phone conversations with President pro tempore of the United States Senate Orrin Hatch, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Bob Corker, Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, and Representative Ted Yoho.

During the phone calls, PM Phuc expressed his pleasure at the development of the relations between the two legislatures over the past time, contributing to strengthening mutual understanding, narrowing differences and building trust between the two sides.

The Government chief spoke highly of the US Congress’ role in enhancing cooperation between Viet Nam and the US while welcoming the US to boost cooperation to maintain peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region.

PM Phuc expect the Viet Nam-US comprehensive cooperation would continue development course based on respect for each other's political systems.

He suggested the US Congress continue supporting Viet Nam to overcome the consequences of war, including dioxin decontamination in Da Nang and Bien Hoa airports and unexploded ordnances.

The PM also expects that the US Congress to continue support for the maintenance of peace, security, safety, freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea, for peaceful settlement of disputes on the basis of international law and diplomatic and legal processes.

The US law-makers spoke highly of PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s visit to the US, saying both countries share many common interests and both the Democratic and Republican Parties back enhancement of the bilateral ties./.
