PM challenges UK Ambassador to double trade volume

VGP – Vietnamese PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc challenged UK Ambassador to Viet Nam Gareth Ward to double the current two-way trade volume during his working term in the Southeast Asian country.

The bilateral trade rose to over US$ 6 billion last year, up 11% against 2016, according to the Government chief.

The UK ranks 15 out of 129 countries and territories having investment in Viet Nam, PM Phuc added.

He welcomed the UK’s proposal on a possible free trade agreement following the Brexit, asking both sides to continue technical exchanges to identify the framework and necessary matters for future negotiations.

PM Phuc also suggested the UK assist Viet Nam in accessing to the Commonwealth Fund to support the country’s efforts in improving business environment, adapting to climate change and infrastructure development.

He highly valued the UK’s positive position on the East Sea issue, especially its strong support for security, safety and freedom of navigation and aviation in the region on the basis of international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea./.
