PM chairs working sessions of sub-committee on socio-economic affairs with HCM City

This is the second working session of the 13th National Party Congress’s sub-committee on socio-economic affairs. The first one with Ha Noi and 12 neighboring localities was held on April 23 in Ha Noi.

Speaking at the meeting, the PM stressed these localities’ contributions to economic growth such as the population of more than 20 million, accounting for 20% of the nation’s population, including 11 million  laborers, labor capacity of the region reporting 1.8 times higher than the nation, the GDP per capita posting 1.75 times higher than the nation and a huge number of the enterprises (250,000 ones among 700,000 ones in the country).  

The working session will serve as a foundation for the sub-committee to complete the draft socio-economic development strategy for 10-year and the five-year socio-economic development plans, to be submitted to the Party Central Committee for consideration, he said. 

The Government leader required delegates to focus on discussing contents related to outcomes, shortcomings and experience of their localities such as infrastructures, social security and safety, economics and quality of development over the recent five years as well as refer to breakthrough and creative measures and solutions in the upcoming time. 

Regarding Ho Chi Minh City, the PM figured out a separate demand on upholding its role as the nation’s largest economic center, focusing on urban development and management, regional connectivity and orientations for the time ahead. 

Ho Chi Minh City and seven localities continue the nation’s development driving force, the PM affirmed, stressing the necessity to ensure the people’s lives and safety, environmental protection and green growth, especially the development of science and technology in the fourth industrial revolution. 

Phuc also highlighted the importance of infrastructure connectivity and the establishment of institution and reform of mechanisms.

The southern key economic zone comprises of Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Binh Phuoc, Tay Ninh, Long An and Tien Giang provinces.

Earlier on May 6, PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc chaired a conference on the development of the southern key economic zone in Bien Hoa city, the southern province of Dong Nai.
