The Government chief made the point today in Ha Noi while addressing a conference which summed up the sector operation in 2017 and defined tasks for 2018.

The PM lauded the sector’s successful performance in 2017 especially with impressive figures like a US$ 200 billion export turnover, the abolishment of 675 business and investment lines (equivalent to 55% of total 1216 business and investment conditions), and the settlement of 12 loss-making projects.

However, the Government chief also pointed out weaknesses, including slow introduction of strategies and plans; limited implementation and research in industrial development in line with the fourth industrial revolution; weak market forecasts; and low competitiveness; and heavy reliance on the FDI sector.

New requirements

PM Phuc stressed that in 2018 and the next couples of years, industrial production, export, and domestic trade must develop in favor of high-tech, competitive and environmentally friendly products. The sector was asked to develop exports and maintain domestic markets especially goods.

The Government chief noted the importance of performing better and fulfilling the preset goals even outstripping them.

Renewing mindsets about working terms and sector's interests

The Government chief highlighted the importance of renovating mindsets and defining long-term visions. Officials from the Ministry of Industry and Trade were asked to overcome the thinking about working terms, challenges and the sector's interests to grasp opportunities and work with other sectors.

The Ministry was urged to regard businesses as the focus of innovation; raise productivity; apply scientific advances; develop human resources; renovate administrative procedures; prevent corruption.

The MoIT was asked to combat illegal trading, trade frauds, and protect domestic production./.
