At the meeting, the PM asserted that tourism development is a crucial economic sector of the province with the view of becoming the tourist center of the Mekong Delta, requiring the province to establish a tourism ecosystem with diversified products and take advantages of renewable energy to develop wind and solar power.

He proposed enhancing close management and anti-waste of land and water management as well as developing potential trade and service sectors, especially education and health.

The PM also requested the province to actively respond to climate change through agricultural restructuring.

In 2018, Bac Lieu Province’s economic growth reached 8.36%, the highest over the recent three years. The GRDP per capita was estimated at VND42 million.

At the working session, the province suggested the Government and other ministries and agencies support the development of Bac Lieu liquefied natural gas (LNG)-fueled power project, which is invested by a U.S. Delta Offshore Energy with the total investment of US$4.3 billion.

The project, with the designed capacity of 3,200 MW, is expected to bring VND2,500-3,000 billion each year for local budget.
