Party chief starts visits to Latin America

VNGOP – General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nông Đức Mạnh left Hanoi in the morning of May 24 to kick off his official visits to the Republic of Chile, Federative Republic of Brazil, Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, and the Republic of Cuba.

The visits were made at the invitations of Chilean President Michel Bachelet, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Luca Da Silva, Venezuelan President Hugo Chevez, and President of the Council of State and President of the Council of Ministers of Cuba Fidel Castro.

General Secretary Nông Đức Mạnh is accompanied by Standing Deputy PM Nguyễn Sinh Hùng; leaders of the CPV's Central Committee for Foreign Affairs, CPV's Central Office, ministries of Culture and Information, Industry, Science-Technology, Trade, Foreign Affairs, Planning and Investment, Hanoi and Hồ Chí Minh City People's Committees. The Vietnamese Ambassadors to Chile, Brazil, Cuba and the Vietnamese Charge d'affairs to Venezuela will be included.
