The money will be poured into the UN’s budget in Việt Nam and used to facilitate the country’s socio-economic demands in 2009-10.

Swedish Ambassador Rolf Bergman reckoned that the One UN Initiative has been well realized in Việt Nam at an impressive tempo.

The process has proved not only the clear leadership of the Vietnamese Government but also involved relevant agencies, donors and other stakeholders in a constructive and transparent manner, said Mr. Bergman.

Since late 2005, the One UN Initiative was piloted in Việt Nam at nation level. The initiative is also realized in Albania, Cape Verde, Pakistan, Rwanda, Tanzania, Mozambique and Uruguay.

The One UN Initiative is comprised of five major components: One Leader, One Plan, One Plan Fund, One UN House and One Set of Management Practices.

It attaches attention to five top areas, including socio-economic policies, plans and laws; high quality protection services; environmental protection and rational use of natural resources; accountable, transparent and participatory governance; and minimized vulnerability of natural disasters.

The One UN Initiative in Việt Nam helps to further harmonize the operation of all offices, funds and programs headed by the UN in Việt Nam in order to acquire greater successes, attention and efficiency.
