One foreign sailor confirmed having COVID-19, total rises to 383

VGP – A 40-year old man from Myanmar has been confirmed the latest COVID-19 case in Viet Nam, bringing the patient tally to 383, according to the National Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control.

The man is a sailor arriving at Hon Gai port in the northern province of Quang Ninh on June 23 from Japan. He isolated himself at his vessel until June 7 when he was taken to the locality’s Van Long hotel for further quarantine.

He was first tested for COVID-19 on July 9 and the outcome turned out negative but the second test on July 17 showed that he contracted the virus.

At present, he is being treated at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Ha Noi’s Dong Anh District.

The latest patient raised the total imported cases to 243, the national committee said.

As many as 12,798 people are under medical surveillance in Viet Nam to prevent community transmission of the virus, of whom 100 at hospitals, 12,273 at centralized quarantine facilities, and 425 at places of residence, the committee added.

Today marks the 94th consecutive day Viet Nam has gone without new community-transmitted case of COVID-19./.
