Norway, Germany help Thừa Thiên-Huế clear mines

VGP - The Thừa Thiên-Huế People’s Committee on April 21 received a project to clear unexploded ordnances (UXOs) with the fund of US $120,000 from the Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA).

The project will be implemented in Hồng Tiến Commune of Hương Trà District.

Earlier, the provincial People’s Committee had a working session with the German organization SODI about a UXO clearance program. The two sides signed a cooperative deal on the issue.

Since 2008, SODI has assisted the UXO clearance in over 216 ha in Quảng Vinh Commune, Quảng Điền District.

It is implementing the same project in an area of 150ha of Quảng Lợi Commune, Quảng Điền District.

The provincial military command said Thừa Thiên-Huế still has some 501,083ha contaminated with UXOs.
