‘New-style rural’ localities in Dong Nai recognised

Xuan Loc and Long Khanh are the first localities that have received the honorary titles after the four-year implementation of the National Target Program on New-style Rural Area Construction.

According to Dinh Quoc Thai, Chairman of the Dong Nai provincial People’s Committee,Xuan Loc and Long Khanh surpassed the new-style rural requirement of having 75% of their communes meeting the 19 new-style rural criteria, with 100% in Long Khanh and 85.7% in Xuan Loc (12 of 14 communes qualified).

Xuan Loc has established specialized cultivation zones for mango, pepper, corn and fruit specialties and repeated hi-tech farming and breeding models to increase production values to VND115.5 million per hectare offarming. The trained labor force made 75 and 90.9% of the regularly employed forces. The  annual income per capita has reached VND37.6 million, three times higher than the 2008 figure, while the rate of poor household was reduced to 1% from 7%.

Meanwhile, Long Khanh’s agricultural production has been developed towards centralized goods production with a focus on technical advancements’ transfer. The agricultural produciton value increased 6.1% per year and the average production value per hectare of farming made VND170 million, the highest value in Dong Nai province, making the yearly income per farmer reach VND38.6 million, 2.13 times the 2009 level and the poor household rate sharply decrease under 1%.

Beside the two recognized localities, Dong Nai’s new-style rural area construction program has saw many significant achievements.

Some 52 of the province’s 138 communes have met the new-style rural standards, accounting for 32.8% and four times as the country’s average figure. Dong Nai is striving to get 100% of communes meeting requirements of new-style rural areas by 2020.

Addressing the event, PM Dung praised the province’s outstanding achievements in socio-economic development, and its building of new-style rural areas in particular.

He said the results in Dong Nai province has shown that if the whole society took part in the new-style rural area construction program, the target of prosperous people, a strong, democratic, equal and civilized country, as well as of industrialization and modernization would be reachable.

To realize the targets set for 2020 in the new-style rural area construction, PM Dung urged local authorities to fully grasp the important meaning of new-style rural area building and consider it their constant political task, and devise appropriate implementation plans fore ach locality.

He also asked Dong Nai and other provinces to creatively apply policies for building new-style rural areas; proactively mobilize resources from local people, enterprises and society for the campaign; and integrate investment programs in both infrastructure and production development.

He expressed his hope that with the recognition of ‘new-style rural area’ districts, Dong Nai will continue taking the lead in this program.
