National Assembly introduces new staff

According to the Central NA Election Council, 493 deputies from all walks of life were elected to the 12th National Assembly, the legislative body in the period of acceleration of comprehensive renewal, industrialization and modernization, and international economic integrity.

The NA election was successfully carried out on May 20, 2007, with a high percentage of voters going to the polls, up to 99% in 59 amongst 64 centrally-administered cities/provinces throughout the country. Even in some territorially disadvantaged localities like Hà Giang, Vĩnh Long, Quảng Nam, and Phú Thọ, the figure was 99.99%...

Mr. Bùi Ngọc Thanh, member of the Standing Committee of the NA, General Secretary of the Election Council, emphasized that the poll was witness to high transparency and democracy.

- Voters executing their suffrage: 99.64%

- Deputies with post-graduate and graduate degrees: 164 (33.27%) and  309 (62.68%) respectively;

- Deputies nominated by the Central authority: 153;

- Deputies nominated by local authorities: 340;

- Oldest deputy: 80 years old;

- Youngest deputy: 24 years old; 

- Deputies from ethnic minorities: 87 (17.65%);

- Female deputies: 127 (25.76%);

- Self-nominated deputy: 1 (0.20%);

- Re-elected deputies: 138 (27.99%);

- New deputies: 345 (72.11%).
