MoU agreed for UK nonrefundable aid to Program 135 in stage 2

VNGOVNet – Considering the proposal of the Ministry of Finance (MoF), on January 22, the PM agreed to the draft Memorandum of Understanding under which the UK Government will provide a nonrefundable aid worth of £16 million to Program 135, stage 2.

The MoF was entrusted to sign the Memorandum with the representative of the Department for International Development (DFID) in Vietnam. The Committee for Ethnic Minority was assigned to conduct activities and realize Program 135, stage 2, in conformity with the signed agreements.

Program 135 is invested by the Vietnamese Government to support disadvantageous mountainous communes build their infrastructure. The Program is implemented in two stages, 1999-2005 and 2006-2010.

In stage 2, the Program concentrates on four fields: production, infrastructure construction, human resource training, and services for 1,644 disadvantageous communes, border communes and those formerly used as revolutionary bases. The total investment is estimated to be VND 12,000 billion.
