The take-over of documents on Hoàng Sa |
The documents, dating back 1834, was officially handed over yesterday by the Quảng Ngãi People’s Committee to representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA).
Earlier, on Thursday, the Đặng family in An Hải Commune of Quảng Ngãi, the owner of the documents for nearly two centuries, voluntarily donated their heirloom to the provincial authority.
The 4-pace (24 x 35.5 cm) document, written in Chinese script, described that Quảng Ngãi Province was ordered by the Nguyễn royal court to send ships and soldiers to fulfill public assignments in Hoàng Sa.
Mr. Vũ Anh Dũng, representative of the MoFA, confirmed that the documents are of historical, cultural and legal significance, evidencing Việt Nam’s sovereignty over Hoàng Sa.
