Lawmakers okay relief of PM Nguyen Tan Dung

VGP – The National Assembly on April 6 passed the removal of PM Nguyen Tan Dung from his duties and discussed the election of Deputy PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc as his successor.

The National Assembly on April 6 passed the removal of PM Nguyen Tan Dung from his duties

In the morning, State President Tran Dai Quang delivered a proposal of the removal to the parliament, affirming that PM Nguyen Tan Dung who was elected at the first session of the 13th NA has fulfilled his assigned term-long tasks.

Due to the required Party and State high-profile personnel arrangements after the 12th National Party Congress, the President submitted the discharge to the NA for approval.

In the afternoon, the NA heard the NA Standing Committee’s report on outcomes of group discussions on the related issue.

With 418 votes of approval (or 84%), the NA agreed to dismiss Mr. Dung from his duties.  

On behalf of the NA, NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan presented a bouquet and expressed her gratitude to PM Dung for his great contributions over the last term as the Head of the Government.

State President Quang also submitted a nomination list for the new PM to the NA. Accordingly, Deputy PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc was nominated as the next PM.

On April 7 morning, the NA will elect the new PM./.
