Japanse agency finances US $2 mil. for afforestation

VGP – The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Việt Nam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) signed on November 7the project “Enhancing ability of planning and implementing afforestation projects.”

The project will be launched in the first quarter of 2010 and lasts for three years, With the total sum of US $2 million, the project is aimed at training forestry managers in 23 provinces in the Northwest, Northeast, Central region, and the Central Highlands of Việt Nam.

All the trainees will be given with necessary skills of making feasibility study reports and afforestation plans in Việt Nam.

JICA hopes that through the project, the reports will be used as official training manuals for Việt Nam’s forestry rangers.

JICA has actively been supporting Việt Nam through projects on afforestation, sustainable forest management and natural reservation.

Earlier, the Japanese agency had financed the project “Research on strengthening ability of making feasibility study reports and afforestation plans in Việt Nam” in the phase of 2005-2008.
