Japan feels secure about VN’s ODA refundment

VGP – Japanese Ambassador Mitsuo Sakaba assured that he has no concern over Việt Nam’s solvency for Japan’s ODA loans.

"The Vietnamese Government will have their own decisions and if the Vietnamese economy continues to grow well, I feel no worry," said Mr. Mitsuo Sakaba in a press briefing on Friday.

Việt Nam was the biggest receiver of Japanese ODA in 2006 and 2007.

According to Mr. Mitsuo Sakaba, when Việt Nam will have greater ability to refund Japan’s loans when its national economy develops well.

He revealed that Japan is going to open discussions with Việt Nam on projects for economic stimulus and recovery.

Earlier, Việt Nam and Japan gained consensus on important issues relating to ODA. They pledged to publicize bidding information and contracts between investors and consultants, as well as regularly update information about projects.

A third independent and experienced partner will be appointed to assess the bidding process.
