Japan facilitates the growing of high quality rice in Kiên Giang

VGP - Tân Hiệp District in the southern province of Kiên Giang has just taken over a high quality rice producing program sponsored by Kitoku Shinryo Company Limited, Japan.

According to this program, six agricultural co-operatives in the district will cultivate 1,500 ha of Japanese special long-seed rice with the yield of six tons per ha in the winter-spring crop 2008-2009.

Under the program, Tân Hiệp’s farmers will be provided with rice seed and farming technique. They are also get a bonus of VND 600 per kg of qualified rice.
A high quality husking system based on Japanese technology will also be operated in the district.
The program will be popularized in the district, so as to obtain 10,000 ha in 2010 and 15,000 ha in 2015.

Tân Hiệp is Kiên Giang Province’s major agricultural producer. By applying successfully modern technologies, it can produce six tons of rice per hectare a crop on average.
