IT sector keeps quick growth pace

VGP - Việt Nam's Information and Technology (IT) sector gained a year-on-year growth pace of 25% during the period of 2002-2007. The sector's turnover reached US $4.8 billion last year. Việt Nam now ranks among the 20 most attractive markets for software and services outsourcing.

According to statistics, Việt Nam has attracted 332 foreign-invested IT projects with total capital of nearly US $2 billion.
The country has built many concentrated IT parks in order to charm investors into this field. Up to July 2008, 186 industrial park and export processing zones, together with five industrial and software parks were established, covering a total area of 740,000 square meters.
Some software and hi-tech parks in Hồ Chí Minh City, Hà Nội and Đà Nẵng have recorded initial positive achievements.
At the national seminar on IT in the new investment trend, held in Hà Nội last week, Deputy PM Nguyễn Thiện Nhân confirmed that the Government considers IT sector the motive force for the development of the national economy.
Deputy PM Nhân,  also Chairman of the National Steering Committee for IT, pointed out four priorities that the sector must focus on in the time to come, including building more industrial and software parks, qualifying human resource, promoting investment, and advertising the country's IT trademark abroad.
