Irish President treasures ties with VN

Deputy PM Dung thanked the Irish Government and people for regarding Viet Nam as a prioritized partner in its development cooperation policy, adding that projects sponsored by Ireland have made crucial contribution to Viet Nam’s socio-economic development and international integration.

Viet Nam attaches importance to the multi-faced relations with Ireland, affirmed the Deputy PM.

President Michael D. Higgins appraised Viet Nam’s socio-economic development and international integration, welcoming strong development in the two nations’ friendship and multi-faced cooperation, especially in such areas as politics-diplomacy, trade-investment, development cooperation,  agriculture-food, education-training and culture and the two-way trade value of US$1.14 billion in 2016, three times higher than in 2015.

He hailed the active implementation of agreements which were signed during his official visit to Viet Nam in November 2016, extending his invitation to Vietnamese high-ranking leaders to pay official visits to Ireland.

The two leaders exchanged measures to promote the two nations’ relations in the future, agreeing to accelerate cultural exchange activities and uphold the role of Overseas Vietnamese in Ireland.

They committed to closely coordination in implementing the two nations’ national strategy in 2017-2020 phase, focusing on socio-economic development, poverty reduction, climate change adaption and realization of the Millennium Development Goals and other United Nations peace-keeping activities.
