IBM to open research center in HCMC

VGP - The multinational computer technology and IT consulting corporation IBM will officially open a new research center to boost its cooperation with Vietnamese universities.

Accordingly, IBM Innovation Center will be established in Hồ Chí Minh City to help develop and market new technologies in such fields as banking, telecommunications, energy and public administration.

The center offers students various training courses and open technologies. In addition, IBM will coordinate with local partners to promote the development of new technology products.

Mr. Tod Freeman, global communications manager for IBM’s venture capital group, assumed that Việt Nam will be the center of Asia in the future and it is the key strategy for IBM to extend its market.

Thanks to the booming of the Internet and young population, the growth of Việt Nam’s technology increases 20% each year, said Mr. Tod.

IBM will invest in some specific fields including clean technology, cloud computing, smart electricity grid, e-health and green data centers.

IBM Việt Nam announced on May 22 a cooperation program with the Hồ Chí Minh City National University with the aim of setting up teaching programs and researches on enhancing technology skills.

IBM Việt Nam will build a cloud computer lab to evaluate and broaden other cloud structures. Especially, this cooperation program will consist of researches into IBM’s software and hardware as well as establish training programs and subjects related to computing.
