HCMC welcomes 7 millionth guest

VGP – The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism held a ceremony to welcome the 7 millionth guest on December 10 at Tan Son Nhat international airport.

The event is part of a string of activities  to mark the 320th founding anniversary  of the city which has been known as Saigon, Cho Lon and Gia Dinh in the past.

The 7 millionth guest was Mr. Tissot Jean Claude who was on board VN10 flight from Paris (France) to HCMC.

The visitor was awarded a gift set including free transport tickets to tourism sites in HCMC; a package of heath care service, and a lacquer painting. The national flag carrier-Viet Nam Airlines presented a free business ticket. The two other guests were given a free economic tick each. 

Over the past year, the city has witnessed tourism development in both number and quality. The tourism sector's growth expanded about 15% annually. In 2019, the Department targets to welcome about 8.5 million guests, representing a year-on-year increase of 14%. 

In 2019, the city will focus on perfecting distinctive tourism events, including Nguyen Hue flower road, long dress festival, tourism festival, and international tourism festival. 

In addition, the Department will improve manpower quality; beef up scientific application; and develop more tourism products./.
