HCM City’s leaders visit Catholics ahead of Christmas

VGP - A delegation of the Party Committee, the People’s Council and the People’s Committee of HCMC led by Party Committee Secretary Nguyen Thien Nhan made a visit to Archdiocese of Ho Chi Minh City on the occasion of Christmas 2017.

At the reception, Archbishop Bui Van Doc in his speech expressed his thanks to the city’s leaders for their special attention and assistance to activities of Archdiocese of HCMC. In the past years, many Archdioceses, Catholic Churches have organized many practical movements and programs to maintain security and order, reduce traffic accidents and protect the environment, joined hands with the city’s authorities at all levels to take care of people’s lives and to build safe –civilized-modern residential areas.

Meanwhile, Bishop Nguyen Anh Tuan, chief of the Office of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Viet Nam, pledged to encourage followers to continue uniting and joining hands with the administrations at levels to fulfill their citizen obligations and lead a good religious life.

On behalf of HCMC’s leaders, Mr. Nhan informed the Archbishop about  socio-economic development situations of Viet Nam and HCMC. Mr. Nhan highly appreciated efforts and contributions of the Catholic Community, bishops, priests to the development of the city. Many patriotic emulation movements organized by Archdiocese of HCMC have gathered enormous strength to support HCMC overcome difficulties and challenges to complete its target of making HCMC a modern, civilized, sentimental city with better living quality.

He extended greetings to and wished Catholic dignitaries and followers nationwide a merry Christmas and happy New Year.

Mr. Nhan highlighted the contributions made by the municipal archdiocese and followers to the city’s education, health and social charity, thus helping the city to realize its socio-economic development targets.

He expressed his hope that the archdiocese’s dignitaries will continue joining hands with local authorities to encourage local Catholics to actively participate in national construction and protection movements.
