The ceremony was attended by the top leaders of Vietnam’s Communist Party, State and National Assembly; leaders of Hanoi City’s Party Committee and People’s Committee; representatives of many ministries, sectors, and organizations, nearly 300 cadres and soldiers who are the historical witnesses of the date on which President Hồ Chí Minh launched a call for the whole nation to stand up against the return of the French colonialists to the newly founded Democratic Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945), and a large audience of the capital’s citizens.

Addressing the ceremony, Hanoi Party Committee Secretary Phạm Quang Nghị asserted that the anniversary is a chance to look back on the historical event displaying the heroism and courage of the capital’s people and army who represented the whole nation’s spirit of indomitability. This is also the occasion to convert the spirit “Determine to sacrifice for the Motherland to live forever” of the predecessors into the present-day generations’ strong will to make use of opportunities and overcome challenges to promote the country’s comprehensive renovation, national industrialization and modernization, bringing Vietnam out of poverty and underdevelopment.

On this occasion, the City People’s Committee Nguyễn Quốc Triệu called on every enterprise, organization and individual to strive their best in their assignments, as a contribution to the city’s general striving efforts in 2007 – the year of international integration and the key year to build landmarks designed to welcome the 1000th anniversary of the establishment of Thăng Long-Hanoi.
