Half of HCMC's population to get vaccinated by September

VGP – Ho Chi Minh City will receive at least five million COVID-19 vaccine doses between now and September 2021 to vaccinate 50 percent of its population, said Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Truong Son.

So far, the city has been given the largest amount of the delivered COVID-19 vaccine doses, he added. 

According to the updated information at the COVID-19 Vaccination Portal of the Ministry of Health, HCMC is taking the lead in vaccinating its residents against COVID-19 with 1,039,652 doses administered. 

Regarding the upcoming fifth phase of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign in the city, Vice Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee Duong Anh Duc said that as many as 930,000 doses were distributed to the city while around 1.3 million local people have registered for vaccination. 

Earlier, at a working session with the city’s officials on July 11, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asserted that the Government would give priority to allocating vaccines to Ho Chi Minh City amid spike in infection cases in the southern metropolis. 

In the largest-ever vaccination campaign, taking place from July 2021-April 2022, vaccines will be first allocated to pandemic-hit provinces and cities, localities in key economic regions, industrial and populous localities, and border localities with international border gates.

HCMC remains the current biggest coronavirus hotspot in Viet Nam with 43,776 domestic infection cases documented since the fourth wave of COVID-19 resurgence began in late April./.
