Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh made that statement on March 25 at a ceremony to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the municipal diplomatic sector's day.

Viet Nam continues to participate in cooperative mechanisms and connection at all levels, focusing on forming the ASEAN Community and completing crucial FTAs negotiations, he asserted.

The integration process will pave the way for the national development, for each business and citizen to develop, he said, regarding the work as one of the city’s key tasks.

Located at the gateway for provinces in the North to the world and holding a crucial strategic position in terms of politics, security, national defense and diplomacy, Hai Phong City should take the lead in socio-economic development and international integration.

Over the recent years, the city has established cooperative relations with 19 localities in 13 nations all over the world, and actively participates in the network in the Asia-Pacific and Initiatives for Asian Cities.

The city also concentrates on promoting investment and trade with other potential markets such as Japan, the Republic of Korea, the US and EU, attracting non-governmental aid of US$37 million.

It also pays special attention to vocational training, social welfare, health care and adaption to climate change.
