Deputy Director of the provincial Department of Construction Le Van Tai said household solid waste in Tra Vinh was previously collected and buried at landfills with a daily amount of over 250 tons. Once operational, the factory will handle garbage in Tra Vinh city and neighbouring districts such as Chau Thanh, Tieu Can, Cang Long and Cau Ke.

Invested by the Viet Nam Energy Environment Industrial Technology Company Limited, the factory covers an area of 15ha, and costs more than VND79 billion (US$3.48 million).

It will use Sankio incinerators imported from Japan and is capable of treating 150 tons of household solid waste per day.

The construction is expected to be completed within one year.

In the coming time, the province will continue to call for investment in household solid waste treatment factories in other coastal localities, including Cau Ngang, Tra Cu and Duyen Hai districts and Duyen Hai township.
